The inauguration of Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, Branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences coincided with the establishment of Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research (ACCR) in 1980. This institution engages in various fields such as education, culture, research, professional medical services and employment.

 

Thanks to its efficient management and collaboration of the experienced and active academic staff as well as the enormous capacity of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, this academic center has effectively devised and implemented various plans in the fields of education, culture and research, and is now among the prominent units in the realm of health.

Department of Research

 

Introduction

 

The Department of Research of Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, Branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences commenced its activities in the form of Committee of Plans and Research for ACCR with the help of the interested university students in 1991, and it has entered a new stage in an organized and coherent way since 1996.

 

Currently, this department is working with a subset of a research center, six research centers and eight centers of professional services.

 

The features of research activities at Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, Branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences are as follows:

 

  • Conducting the applied and developmental research
  • Attempting at employer-based research
  • Utilizing the skilled and committed workforce
  • Attempting at financial self-reliance has provided over 80% the of organizational expenditure, and having a flexible structure makes it possible for such a small organization to conduct the projects and research which most of them have been carried out for the first time in Iran.

Research Center for Laser Medicine

 

 

Introduction

 

This group is aimed at conducting studies of diagnostic and medical applications of laser and light. The main studies of this center are in the realm of laser in dermatology and surgery.

The Research Center for Laser Medicine along with specialized dermatology and wound clinics as well as dental clinics is involved in research activities aimed at inventing new applications of laser medicine and improving the available applications.

 

Activities of the group are as follows:

  • Laser in medicine and biology
  • Laser therapy
  • Light therapy for dermatologic disorders and mucus
  • Reactions and applications of photodynamic therapy
  • Interaction of the laser beam with living tissues

 

 

General and Exclusive Objectives

 

Conducting the employer-based research plans approved by the headquarters of ACCR, domestic plans and offering consultation aimed at doing doctoral and master’s theses. In addition, developing activities of laser applications in Medical Sciences Research Center is the other objective of this center.

Pediatric Health Research Center

 

 

Introduction and Summary of Activities

 

 

This center is aimed at improving the health of children and adolescents (i.e. 0 to 18).
Since growth monitoring and child development can maintain health and prevent disability, services (i.e. healthy child care) and its related research are the prime objectives of this center including issuing health certificates to infants and adolescents for the first time in Iran.

The mission of this center is improving the health of children born with the help of fertility treatment for the 30-year plan aiming at evaluating the health of children born with the help of the aforementioned childbirth, monitoring their process of health, indexes of their growth and development and examining the health promotion of their families.

 

General and Exclusive Activities

 

  • Building active relationships and interaction with children born with the help of fertility treatment and their families.
  • Conducting research plans aimed at determining the above-mentioned children’s state of health.

Elderly Health Research Center

 

Introduction and Summary of Activities

 

Nowadays due to the progress of health sciences, a number of the elderly are increasing rapidly every year. For the first time, in 2000, the number of 65-year-old people overtook the number of children under age five. At present, aging population is known as one of the tremendous challenges of the first half of the 21st century and the World Health Organization has considered the problems and challenges of population aging to be a high priority.

 

On the other hand, the status of population aging is really special in Iran. As a matter of fact, Iran along with the countries such as Mongolia and Cuba is placed top in the countries moving quickly towards ageing. However, Iran is not well-prepared to face with population aging crisis. Problems such as chronic diseases, disability, medical care, falls, misbehavior, the neglect of the elderly, social issues, insurance, municipal support, psychological issues and etc. are among the matters needing necessary infrastructure and research.

Concerning the fact that aging is an interdisciplinary and multi-dimensional issue, the Elderly Health Research Center has considered health of the elderly from different angles such as medical, sociology, management, psychology and pathology and etc.  It attempts to act through research and offer modern patterns in the system of social, medical and health services.
To face the aging issue whether in the present or in the near future, this center attempts to provide comfort for the elderly and also the necessary research infrastructure for the Iran society.

Moreover, this research center along with its effective cooperation with the university students is attempting to enhance the quality of life in the elderly and develop the research of this subject area in Iran through offering consultation at different academic stages (i.e. undergraduate, postgraduate, Ph.D., and the Clinical Ph.D. programs) and also through cooperation with other research centers, organizations and other elderly support centers.

  • Examining the impact of social and economic factors on misbehavior and the neglect of the elderly in Tehran (the case study of the elderly under the supervision of Home Care Centers for Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research, Branch of Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

Specialized Research Clinic for Immunology and Allergy affiliated to ACCR is a center established by the full cooperation of the professors of Research Center for Immunology, Asthma and Allergy affiliated to Tehran University of Medical Sciences.

 

 

General and Exclusive Objectives of Activities

 

 In addition to offering education and consulting services consultation services, this clinic has set out the aims of providing the prevention methods, diagnostic and therapeutic services (Pharmacotherapy, Immunology) for the allergy sufferers or immunodeficiency based on the global scientific criteria, conducting plans and working on clinical and laboratory research projects.

  • Examining the predictive factors of severity of illness (serum sickness-like reaction).
  • Examining the frequency of symptoms the common allergic diseases (asthma, rhinitis and eczema) among schoolchildren between six and seven years old in Tehran in 2012.
